Patented innovative sun protection technology with lamellar structure
Our Ultrasun products with lamellar structures offer a range of benefits that set them apart from conventional sunscreens. They improve skin tolerance and moisturisation, provide more effective and longer-lasting protection, have a more pleasant texture and reduce the risk of skin irritation. These properties make them an excellent choice for daily sun protection, especially for people with sensitive skin. The products with lamellar structures are a milestone in sun protection: they are not only extremely gentle on the skin but they are also very environmentally friendly, as they require a smaller amount of filters for the same high protection factor.
As the lamellar structure resembles the natural skin barrier, the risk of skin irritation and allergic reactions is reduced. This makes them particularly suitable for sensitive skin types.
Lamellar structures allow the UV filters to be evenly distributed on the skin and thus offer long-lasting protection.
Our Ultrasun formulations with lamellar structures have a particularly light texture, can be applied better and more evenly, are quickly absorbed and leave no residue on the skin.
The lamellar structures of the formulations also allow lower UV filter concentrations to be used for the same high protection factor. This protects the skin and the environment. The Ultrasun line for sensitive skin is therefore particularly environmentally friendly.
Carefully selected ingredients
The ingredients for our Ultrasun sun protection products are selected with great care and limited to the essentials in order to support the skin's natural balance. For over 30 years, we have been developing according to the CLEAN FORMULAS credo. This means that Ultrasun does not use controversial ingredients.
Ultrasun does NOT use: Artificial fragrances, mineral oils, silicones, PEG/PPG emulsifiers, BMDM (butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane), octocrylene, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, aluminium compounds and additional preservatives.
Protection across the full sun spectrum
Our products provide reliable protection against the full sun spectrum, ranging from ultraviolet rays (UV) to infrared rays (IRA). We only use high-quality, photostable filter technologies and ingredients that do not harm the skin or the environment, so that you are maximally protected and can enjoy the positive aspects of sunlight at the same time.
Sunlight penetrates the skin to different depths, so protection from the full sunlight spectrum is important:
- UV-B protection: UV-B penetrates the epidermis and stimulates the melanocytes there to release melanin into the cells in order to protect the cell nucleus. This means that UV-B rays are responsible for tanning the skin, which is a natural protective mechanism of our skin. However, too much UV-B can also burn the skin, i.e. cause sunburn.
One positive property of UV-B radiation is that it is responsible for vitamin D production. This means that a certain amount of UV-B rays is good, but too much UV-B radiation damages the skin and in extreme cases can also cause melanoma (= skin cancer).
- UV-A protection: UV-A rays penetrate to the dermis (=leather skin), where they create free radicals that can lead to indirect DNA damage in the keratinocytes (melanomas can develop) and to the destruction of fibroblasts in the dermis. UV-A is responsible for premature skin ageing and the formation of wrinkles.
It is important to use UV-A protection even in winter: On a grey winter's day, the UV-A radiation is still 70-80% of the radiation of a sunny summer's day. Skin ageing is therefore almost as high, which is why daily UV-A protection is important.
- IRA protection: Infrared rays penetrate deepest into the skin, down to the subcutis, where they form free radicals in the mitochondria. The free radicals damage the components of the cells and oxidative stress is created for the skin. This stress leads to premature skin ageing.
- Blue light protection: Blue light can lead to excessive melanin production by opsin-3 receptors on the basal layer of the skin and thus to melasma (= sun spots). Here too, free radicals are formed in the subcutis, which in turn are responsible for skin ageing.
It is a myth that the blue light from screens damages our skin. The radiation emitted by screens is too low to cause melasma. However, this blue light disrupts our day-night rhythm, which can lead to difficulty falling asleep.
EcoSun Pass approved
Ultrasun is the first sunscreen brand in the world to be awarded the BASF EcoSun Pass - a seal of quality that certifies the environmentally friendly nature of our sunscreens.
This independent sustainability seal was developed by BASF and assesses the impact of UV filter substances on the environment.
The EcoSun Pass certification proves that our sun protection products have been tested for their environmental compatibility and assessed as environmentally friendly. This provides the assurance that the use of these products not only protects the skin, but also protects the environment.

aha! Suisse certified
Finding your way through the shopping jungle is not easy - especially not if you suffer from allergies or intolerances. The Allergy Seal of Quality is an independent label and has been developed in close cooperation with aha! Swiss Allergy Centre. The aha! certificate was developed by the aha! Swiss Allergy Centre and aims to certify products that are well-tolerated for affected customers. Labelled products and services offer affected customers added value by increasing their safety and simplifying their everyday life.
Thanks to the allergy seal of quality, products that are suitable for allergy sufferers can be recognised at first glance. The aha! label is an independent label that guarantees that the manufacturing process of the product have been tested and visibly confirms that the labelling on the packaging is correct.
